Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, also known as UGC 934, is a large disturbed grand design spiral located 0.5 billion light years away in the constellation of Pisces at a declination of +31 degrees.  This magnitude 15 object spans 1.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 190,000 light years.

In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Spiral Galaxies with Small, High Surface Brightness Companions on Arms.

The small object below UGC 934 is the magnitude 17 spiral galaxy, LEDA 212740, at the same distance away.  The smaller galaxy does not appear much distorted, so perhaps they are not interacting significantly.  There may be a faint star stream bridge between the two galaxies but I can’t quite see a complete connection.
